Zvezda Vympel 1/35

1/35 Zvezda Vympel Anti-Terrorist Unit

Got these a while back and have been meaning to build them for ages. They were only £8 which is a bargain because you get 6 figures. They are superbly molded and one of the few sets of figures I have built that dont require any filler. Each piece is crisply done and fits prefectly making for a quick, easy build. All three figures only took 1 and a half hours from cutting out to final painting. They were really fun to paint as they give you abit more freedom than most military figures. They wear bright uniforms and have interesting equipment to detail. I used various shades of blue and green to paint them and they are probably my best figures to date, good thing I've still got 3 more to do. The base for the team is just a wooden block with a road texture on it. This was created by spraying a piece of sand paper black and sticking it down. The other is a pre-made resin base I got for 30p.

Glasgow Model Fest

This year I attended the GMF. This was only my second time here and was handing back the Best of Show shield I had won the year before. It was quite busy and there were loads of bargains to be had. I was saving most of my money for Telford so mainly bought small scale.
I got the -

-1/72 Revell Sdkfz 9 - £5

-1/72 Dragon T-34/76 Mod41 - £5
-1/76 MatchBox M7 Priest - £2
-1/76 Fujimi KV-2 with no turret - 50p (A very kind friend from my local IPMS gave me the resin Cromwell 1/76 KV-2 turret the week before, what great luck! )
-1/72 Unknown resin Sdkfz 234 Puma - £2
-1/35 Great Wall Hobby sWS 60cm SearchLight Carrier - £25

There was a very good turnout for the competition and alot of the adult's tables were full. Some very good displays were put on by various clubs which provided many different models to look at in between purchasing :)
Here are some pics of the show. The picture actually showing the show was taken at the end of the day which is why it is so quiet. My one criticism of it would be the lighting was very dim, making it hard to look at the models on display!

Anyway, I know it sounds like alot, but I feel that Soviet Modern Armour is under-represented by juniors and wanted to help fill the tables. Also, I work all year producing models and my only chances for anyone apart from my family and club to see them are at shows (and my blog) so entered-

-1/35 Zvezda T-90 1st Junior Armour Category
-1/35 Trumpeter ASU-85 2nd JAC
-1/35 Tamiya T-72M1 3rd JAC
-1/35 Zvezda BTR-70 JAC
-1/35 Eastern Express BRDM-1 JAC
-1/35 Dragon Land Wasser Schlepper JAC
-1/72 Ace Topas-2AP JAC
-1/35 Chechen Dio 1st Junior Diorama Category
-1/35 Afghan Dio 2nd JDC
-1/35 Vympel Team 1st Junior Figure Category
-1/35 Vymple Solo 2nd JFC

Now some pics-
The clear trophy is last year's first prize, the black one is this years. I still need to get the shield engraved with this years date.
